Young people of Dunstable set to make a buzz this summer!

5 June 2014

This August sees the return of the Grove Theatre Summer Musical Project, with local children aged 7 to 14 entertaining audiences in two performances of the microscopic musical, Insectzzz! on Saturday 9 August.

The project provides intensive training in Musical Theatre from industry professionals, as the young people spend a week in rehearsals before it’s curtain up and lights on. It’s a fantastic way to gain insight into everything that goes on in putting together a Musical Theatre production.

This year’s production, Insectzzz! will see the participants training in movement, prop making and body language, as well as the core skills of acting, singing and dancing. Working with the show’s writer and composer, Robert Mitchell, participants will set the Grove Theatre a buzzing for the first week of August.

This year, for the first time, the Summer Musical Project was to be divided to focus on two separate productions. This would allow the project to provide specialist training tailored to specific age groups. The project was opened up to include children aged 7 to 14 in the first production, Insectzzz! and 14 to 21 year olds in the second, Into The Woods. The nature of the project results in high production costs and sadly, this year, we did not receive as high a turn out at the auditions in May as required to cover these costs. The second production, Into The Woods, will therefore not be taking place.

The level of talent displayed at the auditions was extremely high and all those who auditioned for Into The Woods have been offered places within the Insectzzz! production.
