Acclaimed Orchestra of the Swan creates Goose bumps in Grove Theatre!

South Bedfordshire District Council is pleased to announce that the celebrated Orchestra of the Swan (OOTS), will be performing in Dunstable's Grove Theatre on Sunday 2 November 2008 at 2.30pm.

Frequently chosen by The Guardian and The Telegraph, as pick of the week, the Orchestra of The Swan will perform a variety of pieces including Mendelssohn's much loved Italian symphony and Shostakovitch's Cello Concerto No. 1 featuring the remarkable young soloist Matthew Sharp.

Based in Stratford - Upon - Avon and conducted by David Curtis, the Orchestra of The Swan is a progressive and innovative orchestra who specialise in working in the community with local young

people outside of the usual classical venues. They are now part of a residency in South Bedfordshire and will be working at a rural venue near you over the coming year.

The concert will be launching South Bedfordshire District Council's brand new Urban Orchestra project, which will see a series of community projects and concerts taking place across the district in 2008/2009.

The project is a partnership between South Bedfordshire District Council, Orchestras Live, and Orchestra of the Swan, Beds County Council youth and music services and will involve a buzz of activity happening in the community when musicians from the orchestra together with young people from the district create original pieces of music and perform in the villages of South Bedfordshire. The high point of these performances will be a musical spectacular at Grove Theatre next April.

Arts Development Officer for South Bedfordshire District Council, Emma Van Nieuwenburgh said: "We are very excited by the chance to bring this professional orchestra into our district, it is a great opportunity to hear live classical music on our own doorstep and we expect over 2,000 young people and rural residents to take part in the next six months."

Dave Curtis conductor with Orchestra of the Swan said: "We are delighted to be returning to the Grove Theatre on 2 November with a programme of wonderful music and a superb soloist, Matthew Sharp.

Our Urban Orchestra programme sees OOTS delivering an exciting programme of concerts and workshops and we are very much looking forward to the next six months of innovative music with our partners in South Bedfordshire'
